Fairfield World Poly-fil® Poly-Pellet® Christmas Ornaments

Ornaments are my favorite thing to make at the holidays and these Poly-Pellet® Christmas Ornaments were so much fun! I usually don’t get to make ornaments for my own tree, as I am always making them to sell and they are usually made from all wood. But I love how these Poly-Pellet® ornaments turned out and they will definitely be hanging on my tree.

Materials:

  • Wood ornament cutouts (I cut mine out on my Glowforge, but you can buy them at a local craft store)
  • Plain and Dyed Poly-Pellets (You can see the YouTube video below to see how I dyed mine.)
  • Ribbon and string
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Paint Pens

How I made my ornaments:

For my snowman ornament, I used plain Poly-Pellets®. I glued the Poly-Pellets® to my wooden snow man. I left the arms so that I could paint them brown. TIP: I glued in sections so that the glue didn’t dry too quickly.

Once the first layer was dry, I glued on another layers.

Once the glue was dry, I used a paint pen to paint the arms of my snowman.

I did the same thing with my Christmas tree ornament. I used the brown paint pen to color the stem of the tree.

I wanted my ornaments to be thicker, so layering gave it the thickness I was looking for.

I used small bits of the dyed Poly-Pellets to add details to my ornaments. The snowman got buttons, eyes and a nose. I added a ribbon for the scarf. The tree got lights or small ornaments.

Home For The Holidays Pillow

Today is the kick off of the Fairfield World Pillow Party and I made this Home For The Holidays Pillow to celebrate! I joined other crafty friends in making a pillow for the party. And believe me, they are all cute! I’m all about Home and being home for the holidays so I thought, what a great pillow idea. I even made it festive colors!

Materials:

  • Fairfield World Poly-fil Premier Lumbar Pillow
  • Kunin Felt: Premium Felt on the bolt: Smoke, Classic Felt: Red, Apple
  • Glowforge (not necessary.
  • Home For The Holidays SVG
  • Scissors
  • Cutting Mat, Ruler, Rotary Cutter
  • E6000 Fabri-Fuse
  • Sewing Machine
  • Pins

How I made it:

I started by cutting my felt. The pillow measures 14″x28″ so I cut my grey felt at 15″x19″. I then sewed that together with a 1/2″ seem, leaving a gap big enough to put my pillow in once the case was flipped right side out. Speaking of that, once I was done sewing the three sides, I flipped the right side out.

Next, I inserted the pillow into the pillow case.

With pins, I closed up the gap so that I could get ready to sew it up.

Carefully, I sewed the gap closed with my sewing machine.

I know that not everyone has a Glowforge, but I do and I love to use it to cut felt. It cuts so easily and it’s quick. TIP: You could also print and cut the pattern out or you could use a Cricut.

I laid out all of my pieces in place on my pillow before I glued them down.

I’m obsessed with E6000. I seriously use it daily. This Fabri-Fuse is awesome.

I let the pillow dry flat and then I added the pillow to my couch for a quick festive project!

Hello Pumpkin Sign featuring Fairfield World’s Oly*Fun® and Project Foam

Pumpkin season is here and this Hello Pumpkin sign made with Fairfield World’s Oly*Fun® and Project Foam is perfect to add to your decor! It can be hung on the wall, the door or set on a shelf or table. I love it as a door hanger!

Materials used:

How I made it:

I first started by drawing a pumpkin and stem with a marker on the Project Foam. I knew that my sign was only 14″x14″ so I needed to make it smaller than that. I cut it out with my scissors.

I laid the foam pumpkin and stem shapes on the orange and brown Oly*Fun® and traced around them, adding about a 1/2″.

Once everything was cut out, I sewed the pieces together with a 1/4″ seem and leaving an opening for inserting the foam.

I flipped the sewn Oly*Fun® so the seam was inside and them inserted the foam.

I sewed the openings closed. I then sewed a curved line on each side, giving it a more realistic pumpkin look.

Then I glued the stem to the pumpkin.

Using my Glowforge, I cut out the Hello Pumpkin letters and painted them orange.

Then it was time to glue everything down to the sign.

I love how the sign turned out! Fall decorations are my favorite decorations! I hope you like it too! You could make lots of different size pumpkin signs and make a collage! There is a variety of Oly-Fun® colors!

Easy No Sew Kids Rainbow Costume featuring Fairfield World’s Oly*fun

Halloween is around the corner and an easy no sew kids rainbow costume is perfect for a pop of color on October 31st. Rainbows are all the rage this year so I knew this little cutie would be a perfect model for this costume.

Materials:

  • 1/2 yard of Fairfield World’s Oly*fun™: Cherry Pop, Orange Crush, Lemon Drop, Clover, Sky Blue, Jelly, Bubble Gum
  • Fairfield World’s Poly-fil® Fiber Fil
  • Cutting Mat
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Elastic
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
  • Adhesive Velcro

How I made it:

First, I started by cutting the Oly*fun™ into five 2″ strips using the cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler. I later trimmed them down once I knew how long I needed them to be to fit the child.

Using my hot glue gun, I glued each of the colors together so that they were layered but not directly on top of one another.

Then I glued the groups of five strips together in the order of the rainbow with bubble gum being the last color.

Next, I glued Fiber Fill to the top of the strips where I glued the layers together, creating a cloud for the rainbow. This was a great way to hide the glue! I added more Fiber Fill to make it a full cloud so that you couldn’t see through it.

I cut a piece of elastic at 12 inches and glued it to one end of the rainbow.

I added the adhesive velcro to the other side of the rainbow. I wanted to make sure that the costume fit the child, so I put it on the child and then adhered the elastic to the velcro. That way it fits her perfectly and it will be in the right place in the case that it needs to be taken off.

Once all of the glue was dry and cooled, it was ready to be put on the cutie!

I love how this adorable little no sew kids rainbow costume turned out. It was so fun and easy to make and could even be made it an adult size! I hope you like it as well!

Poly-Pellets® Bird Bath Bowl

Lately I’ve been playing around with resin and Fairfield World’s Poly-Pellets® to see what all I could possibly make with the combination. One idea I came up with was to create a bird bath bowl! It could also be used as a bird feeder bowl.

Materials used:

  • Fairfield World Poly-Pellets®
  • Two Part Resin (I use Envirotex Lite®)
  • 3 Mixing Cups (2 small and 1 bigger)
  • Mixing Sticks
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Heat Gun
  • Sharpie marker
  • Scissors

How I made it:

First, I mixed my two part resin. I measured out equal amounts of the resin and the hardener in two separate cups. I then poured both into a larger cup. Following the instructions, I let it sit for a few minutes before mixing it so that the bubbles could rise to the top.

While I let the mix sit, I wrapped plastic wrap around my cutting mat. I used the mat to protect the table. You don’t have to use it. I used a marker to draw out my bowl pattern.

With the hot glue gun and glue sticks, I went over the marker line with the hot glue, building it up so that I have a wall to keep the resin and poly-pellets® in.

Once I was done building the wall of glue, I mixed up the resin and hardener until it was completely mixed, about 2 minutes.

To measure how many poly-pellets I would need, I poured them out onto my plastic wrap, within the walls of the glue. I then poured them into the mixed resin and then mixed them in, coating the poly-pellets® with the resin.

Using a mixing stick, I spread out the mix until it was all the way to the edges and even.

With my heat gun on high, I waved it above the resin to help pop any bubbles that had developed. Then I left it alone to harden.

After it has started to harden for a few hours, I covered a mixing bowl with plastic wrap and turned it upside down. I then picked up the almost hardened resin with poly-pellets® and turned it over onto the bottom of the bowl. I molded it around the mixing bowl creating an upside down bowl.

Then I left it alone to completely dry overnight. The next morning, I pulled all of the plastic wrap away from the bowl.

After I pulled all of the plastic wrap off, I used scissors to cut away the hot glue from the edge.

I used an old flower pot as the base, but the bowl could just sit on the deck or the table.

The birds love it! I’m thinking about making another one just for bird seed!

Red, White and Blue Bead Earrings

I am joining my crafty friends to create patriotic crafts this month so I decided to make some festive red, white and blue bead earrings! The good thing is that they are cute enough that they can be worn anytime of the year. These were super easy to make and you could do any combination of colors but this Creative Crafts is the Patriotic Edition!

Materials used:

  • Beads of red, white and blue. (They can be any type of beads.)
  • Head Pins (6)
  • Jump Rings (2)
  • Fish Hook Findings (2)
  • Jewelry Making Tools (I used Needle Nose Pliers, Round Nose Pliers)

How I made them:

First, I started by separating my beads and placing them on the head pins in the order that I wanted them.

Using my round nose pliers, I created a loop.

Using my needle nose pliers, I wrapped the remaining wire around the head pin so that it would be secure.

I made four the the head pins about the same size and two of them I left longer so that they would hang at a different length.

With my needle nose pliers, I opened the jump ring and placed the head pins and the fish hook. Using two sets of needle nose pliers, I closed the jump ring.

I love how they turned out and they will be super cute to wear on the 4th of July!

Burlap Sun Welcome Door Hanger Using Fairfield World’s Poly-fil® Fiber Fill

Anything related to the sun makes me happy lately, so I decided that a burlap sun welcome door hanger on my front door would be the perfect touch of happiness! I’m a big fan of painted burlap door signs!

Materials used:

  • Burlap
  • Fairfield World’s Poly-fil® Fiber Fill
  • Wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Paints (I used yellow and black paints from DecoArt)
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Paint Brushes
  • Permanent Marker
  • Pencil
  • A round object to trace a circle
  • A work area you don’t mind getting paint on (I used a plastic container lid)
  • Ribbon (I used sheer yellow ribbon and black raffia ribbon)
I did end up adding additional supplies after this photo was taken.

How I made it:

With my burlap folded in half like it came off of the bolt from the store, I cut about 30 inches for my sun and kept the burlap folded so that I would have 2 pieces of the same pattern after it was cut out.

Using a frisbee and a permanent marker, I traced a circle. TIP: You can use any round object to do the circle or you can just freehand one. This frisbee just happened to be the perfect size that I wanted. I freehanded the triangles of the sun.

Using my scissors, I cut the sun out leaving about half an inch around the lines.

I separated the two pieces of burlap and set the one that does not have the drawn sun aside. This one will be the back piece.

Using a bright sunny color yellow paint, I painted within the lines. TIP: I used an old plastic bin top that I didn’t care about anymore to paint my burlap on top of. Since burlap has holes in it, the paint seeps through and it’s easy to pull the burlap up after it dries.

With a pencil, I wrote out Welcome and then painted it with black paint.

Once the sun piece was dried, I put the two pieces back to gather, making sure to align them correctly.

I then hot glued the edges together, leaving one of the triangles open so that I could stuff it.

Then, I stuffed it full of Poly-fil® Fiber Fill, making sure to stuff the triangles as much as I could. I wanted the triangles to be stiff so they wouldn’t flop over.

Using wire cutters, I cut my wire to the length I wanted.

I pushed the wire through the back of the burlap, up through the front. Using needle nose pliers, I curled the ends so that it doesn’t back out of the burlap.

TIP: I hung my sign on my front porch and wasn’t happy with the length. It was too long, so I trimmed it with the wire cutters and curled the end again. It’s better to cut it a little longer, so that some can be cut off!

Using my marker, I retraced the circle and the triangles so that it gave it more of a whimsical sun look.

I also trimmed off all of the ragged edges to give it a cleaner edge look.

I actually went back and added a small layered bow!

Then it was ready to hang up!

Did you know Poly-fil® is made with recycled material that is re processed into Polyester and then extruded and expanded to make the Poly-fil® we all know and love!
