Adorable Little Ornaments Blog Hop!!!!

I have to say that after making ornaments with Sculpey Clay, I am in love!!!! So, what better way to have some fun than to add buttons from Laura Kelly’s collection from Buttons Galore & More?!?! I had fun creating and so did my six year old son, Landon!!! I created some traditional style ornaments with the clay and added buttons to embellish!!

Materials Needed:

Sculpey Clay

Laura Kelly Buttons

Felt (for the scarf)

A straw (to make a hole for the hook)

Pipe Cleaner

While I was making my ornaments with Sculpey clay, Landon wanted to make some too! I love his creative ideas!

One of my favorite ornaments is a snowman. Who doesn’t love a snowman?!?! They are simple and just too cute!

After I was all done with my snowman and he was baked at the recommended baking time and temperature, I decided to give him some earmuffs!!

Halloween Popcorn Blog Hop

Halloween is just around the corner and will be here before we know it!

My friend, Laura Kelly put together this cute and creative blog hop, sending out an envelope of goodies which included a popcorn box and some embellishments to go with it.
In our directions for this blog hop, it said:

“The objective is to create in whatever way you like best with whatever products you like to feature and simply be a part of something fun…something that connects your passion to those passions of others.”

So, with that being said, I decided to use some things I had lying around in my craft area.

I decided to make a Frankenstein Popcorn Box!

Materials used:

The Popcorn box, provided by Laura

Black Buttons from Laura Kelly’s mix buttons from Buttons Galore & More

Apple Barrel Spring Green Acrylic Paint by Plaid

Googly eyes

Black felt, purchased from JoAnn Stores

Beacon’s 527 Multi-use Glue

Mini Glue Dots

Fiskars Scissors

Black Sharpie Marker

Instructions:

1. I painted the popcorn box green. I did three coats (letting it dry between coats) to make sure everything on the box was covered up.

2. I cut two strips from the black felt and then cut triangles out of one side of the strips to make it look like hair. Then I glued it on to the top of the box using the Beacon’s 527 multi-use glue.

3. Using glue dots, I glued the black buttons together to make them look like bolts. I used about 6 small buttons and three larger ones for the bolt heads. I then used glue dots to attach the bolts to the sides of the box.

4. Using a black Sharpie marker, I drew on the mouth and the stitches.

5. Then I glued the googly eyes on.

Super easy and so much fun! And he got filled with yummy goodness of popcorn, marshmallows and Pumpkin Spice flavored Hershey kisses! 🙂

My children love Halloween just as much as I do! And they love popcorn too! So when I got to making my Halloween Popcorn Box for this blog hop, they were loving it! And since I only made one, I now have to go buy the contents to make another one, unless Laura has any extra boxes lying around!!!! 🙂

Halloween Blog Hop Preview!

Halloween is just around the corner.

What’s more fun than getting in the spirit than a Halloween Blog Hop?!?!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, so when Laura Kelly asked me to join this blog hop, I quickly agreed!

My package arrived and inside was a Popcorn Box and some other craft materials!

The object of this blog hop is to decorate the popcorn box however we want to with any medium that we want!

Ahoy there Matey! iPad Mini Travel Cases

So, in preparing for a trip to New York, I knew we’d be taking the boys iPad Minis with us. Since they were going to be going into their backpacks to carry on the plane, I wanted to make sure that they weren’t going to get all scratched up. So, I put together these super cute little iPad covers. As some of you may know, my friend Laura Kelly Walters has an awesome array of different products, including a few different fabric designs and buttons. I just happen to love her Tossed Pirate fabric! It’s so fun and so boy!!! She is such a creative person and I truly admire her! But here is how I made these awesome iPad Mini travel cases!!!

A metal-less Hair rubberband

First, I measured the iPad mini itself and the cut my fabrics (8.5×11 inches). I then pinned the quilted fabric together. And since these are the same on both sides, it doesn’t matter which way you pin them.

I then sewed them together using the sewing machine, leaving the top open.

I wanted to make sure the iPads themselves would fit and of course they did, just right!!

Then it was on to sewing the fabric together. For the pirate fabric, I put the sides together with the right sides facing together.

And then I sewed those together, again leaving the top open.

Then, taking my metal-less hair rubberband, I pinned it in place and sewed it to the outside of the fabric.

With the pirate fabric the turned right side out, I placed it inside the quilted pocket, making sure that the rubberband was tucked down in between the pockets.

Then, I pinned the pockets together and began to sew around the top, leaving about two inches open so that I could turn the pirate fabric right side out and then stuff the quilted fabric into the pirate fabric, creating a quilted pocket!

Lastly, I sewed on a big button from Laura Kelly’s Mix Button collection and then hot glued a coordinating button on top so that the thread was hidden.

And Voila! After inserting the iPad Mini, you can fold over the top just enough to cover the iPad Mini and hook the rubberband onto the button!

And there you have it!!! And there you have it!!!

Tooth Fairy Pillow

Waiting for the Tooth Fairy!

My six year old, Landon is to the age where it’s time for those good old baby teeth to start falling out. Luckily for him, the dentist had to pull his very first baby tooth because his new adult teeth were coming in behind his baby teeth. After some x-rays, the great Dr. Dan said that the baby tooth would not come loose, so it would have to be pulled. Landon was actually excited because this meant that the tooth fairy was going to come!

I have had the idea of making a Tooth Fairy Pillow on my mind for quite a while. And now the time is here!!!

Materials I used:

An embroidery machine

Felt, purchased from JoAnn Fabrics

Planet Applique’s Tooth Applique

Coats & Clark Thread

Fiskars Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat/Ruler

Blue Ribbon

First, using white felt, I appliqued the tooth. I then cut it out right at the edge of the applique. Next, I embroidered Landon’s name onto the blue felt.

After his name was done, I lined up the tooth cutout and then using my sewing machine, I sewed it on, leaving the top unsewn so that it would create a pocket!

The it was time to cut it to the exact size I wanted it. I cut it at 8×6 inches.

fiskars and trimmed I used ribbon to hang it, so I pinned the ribbon to the right side of the pillow and stitched it back and forth a couple of times at the top of the pillow so that it would stay in place once I began to sew it.

Before sewing the actual pillow together, I put the right sides of the felt together. I guess the back doesn’t really matter since it is plain, but both the tooth and the ribbon needed to be on the inside of the two pieces.

right sides together Then, I sewed the edges together leaving about a 2 inch opening on the side, so that I could flip it right side out and stuff it.

I stuffed the pillow to my liking. I didn’t want it too thick, but I didn’t want it too thin. stuffed

I wanted to add something to the ribbon so that it didn’t look so bare,…. time to emblish

So, I added some of Laura Kelly’s Mix Buttons from Buttons Galore. emblish with buttons

All Done, with a cute little tooth pocket!!! a tooth pocket In went the tooth in a little baggie that the dentist put it in.

And guess what the tooth fairy left?!?!?! tooth stuffed with money

$5 for the Big Boy that did an awesome job at the dentist getting his shots to numb it up and then to have it pulled!!!! wahoo money

Hope you enjoyed my little Tooth Fairy Pillow. It beats the tooth fairy having to go searching under those pillows for the tooth, in which she could accidently wake the child!!!

Me and My Peeps Blog Hop

What I did:

1. I took the glass out of the frames and then spray painted the frames with Krylon spray paint. I also spray painted the wooden letters.

While doing my spray painting, I realized that I need a little more practice on spray painting! I got some bubbles in the paint. But oh well, I made it work!

2. I covered the letters with the awesome Laura Kelly Mix of buttons using hot glue.

3. I then transferred the Peep decal onto a blue piece of card stock that was very similar to the spray paint and then cut them out.

4. I cut some pieces of burlap and attached them to the frames with hot glue. I then attached the button covered letters and the Little Boy Peeps to the frames using hot glue!

After a critique from a friend, in the end, I ended up adding burlap to all four sides. And this is how it turned out!!!

I love these frames and they are currently sitting in my family room!

Me and My Peeps Blog Hop ~ Info

Little Boys Play Date with Rit Dye

Wahoo, the Blog Hop has arrived! I am so excited to share some of the projects I have completed from my box of goodies that arrived in the mail back in April!

I made a few different pieces! And I am most proud of my awesome “Happy 4th of July” Banner! I love it!

Planet Applique’s Firecracker Applique Alphabet and Firework Applique

Using my embroidery machine, I embroidered each letter from Planet Applique’s Firecracker Applique Alphabet and Firework Applique. This took the most time because of having to change the thread.

After all of my letters and fireworks were done, I folded my pieces of felt in half so that my rectangles would be double. I then used a piece of cardboard cut to my desired size, a ruler, mat and a Fiskars rotary cutter to cut the sides evenly.

Because the designs were not even on the felt, I wanted to measure them to make sure they were all even once they were cut out. I knew that all of my appliques were approximately 4 inches square, I decided to cut them at roughly 1.5 inches from the applique tops and bottoms. That way, once they were all cut out and lined up, the appliques were all even!

After they were all cut, I did trim the stabilizer from the back of the felt that was used for the applique.

Then it was time to sew the two pieces together. I lined them up and sewed them up at about 1/8″ away from the edge.

Once they were all sewn, I used the Coats & Clark embroider floss and added some buttons from Laura Kelly’s Patriotic Mix.

The next step was the put the banner together, attaching it to the ribbon. Before sewing it, I folded the grosgrain ribbon in half and ironed it so that it would stay. I laid it all out and put my desired amount of space between each letter and the fireworks. I tucked the top edges between the ribbon, pinned them in and then it was time to sew!!

Patriotic Peeps Decorated Bag

Patriotic Peeps Decorated Bag

Another addition to my I Love the USA Blog Hop projects is a Patriotic Peeps Decorated Bag!

Materials used:

Canvas Bag

Laura Kelly’s Patriotic Peeps Fabric, available at JoAnns Stores

Heat’n Bond Ultrahold

Fiskars Scissors

First, I ironed the Heat’n Bond Ultrahold to the back of the fabric. I then cut out the Peeps and a few of the stars and pompoms and wands! I also cut out strips from the fabric.

Once everything was cut out, I then lined it up on the canvas back, removed the backing of the Heat’n Bond and then ironed it to the bag!

This was a super simple project, but it turned out really really cute and I am currently using it to carry around some books and other things! Oh, and I also attached my personalized bag tag that was made for me by Laura Kelly!
