Surfs Up Magnet – Sculpey Fun

As a kid, I used to love playing with clay.  Through the years, I have found several clay cups, jewelry holders, and Christmas ornaments that I made as a kid.  But I have to say, I still love working with clay as an adult.  And I love working with my kids with clay.  My favorite brand of clay is Sculpey!  Sculpey is so easy to work with, even for the kids!

One of my favorite Sculpey products is their Bake Shop collection.  It’s super soft and easy for little fingers, such as Landon and Benjamin’s to use!  And it has a great variety colors!!

Bake Shop

I used the Bake Shop Sculpey to create a Surfer Girl Magnet to put on my refrigerator to remind me of summer!!!!  She was super easy to create!

Steps

After I finished her, I baked her in the oven 275 degrees for 15 minutes, I let her cool.  Then, I drew on a face using Sharpie‘s and then using my Ad-tech glue gun, I added magnets. magnets

Then, I stuck my awesome yellow bikini clad surfer girl on the refrigerator with a  family beach picture.  Now I can think about the beach all year long!!!!

A Whole New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

So, as I was a new blogger in the year of 2013, I have just recently updated my blog site and I can do a whole lot more with it now.  With that being said, 2014 is going to be the year that I start blogging more.   You do not see many blog post yet, as my past ones were in 2013 and it’s only January 3, 2014 and some updates are still taking place!

Life is about to get super busy for the Berry Family.   I am starting my final semester of school, taking three classes.  One of which, I have already been informed by my professor that it is going to be a super intense class.  But it is my most important class of the semester, Portfolio.   The hubby is changing his schedule around a little bit to help with getting the kids taken care of during the mornings and allowing me to get to school in the evenings.  I will gladly walk across the stage at the May 2014 graduation!!!

I am also continuing to intern for my fabulous friend, Laura Kelly.  We are getting ready to make the long trip to Anaheim, CA for a week to go to the CHA Mega Show where we will meet lots of new people, some Laura already knows through her many trips to CHA.  Oh, I will most definitely blog through my trip for it will be the first time that I have set foot out of a CA airport!!   Most of all, I am hoping that the hubby can survive the 8 days that I am gone!!!

Our family is also planning a trip to Disney for later in the year.  We are super excited about that.  My awesome friend Heather has offered to help plan that trip for us.   And the fact that Landon is in year round school and is tracked out in September is awesome, since everyone else will be going back to school and the lines should be shorter!!!

Besides Disney, we are planning our yearly beach vacation.  Our destination this year is a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC with my parents, my brother, my sister-in-law and my two adorable nieces!   As commercialized as it is there, there is still lots of fun stuff to do there!   We also have tickets to the US Open Championship in Pinehurst, NC in June.   All of my boys love golf and the US Open Championship on comes to NC every so often.   We’ll get to see some of our favorites!  We also plan to drive back up to Rochester, NY to spend more time with our family there.  We’ll probably venture to the zoo, the museums, and back to Niagara Falls and go over into Canada for a short visit!

I’d say that is a pretty busy year so far!   Keep a look out for upcoming post!

Until next time……

Ahoy there Matey! iPad Mini Travel Cases

So, in preparing for a trip to New York, I knew we’d be taking the boys iPad Minis with us.  Since they were going to be going into their backpacks to carry on the plane, I wanted to make sure that they weren’t going to get all scratched up.  So, I put together these super cute little iPad covers.   As some of you may know, my friend Laura Kelly Walters has an awesome array of different products, including a few different fabric designs and buttons.   I just happen to love her Tossed Pirate fabric!  It’s so fun and so boy!!!    She is such a creative person and I truly admire her!   But here is how I made these awesome iPad Mini travel cases!!!

Materials used:

Laura Kelly’s Tossed Pirate on Blue Cotton Fabric, available online at Hancock Fabrics

Black Quilt Material

Guterman thread

A metal-less Hair rubberband

Laura Kelly Mix Buttons, from Buttons Galore & More

materials

First, I measured the iPad mini itself and the cut my fabrics (8.5×11 inches).  I then pinned the quilted fabric together.  And since these are the same on both sides, it doesn’t matter which way you pin them.

quilted insidesI then sewed them together using the sewing machine, leaving the top open.

quilt sewingI wanted to make sure the iPads themselves would fit and of course they did, just right!!

measuringThen it was on to sewing the fabric together.  For the pirate fabric, I put the sides together with the right sides facing together.

fabric right sides togetherAnd then I sewed those together, again leaving the top open.

sewing fabricThen, taking my metal-less hair rubberband, I pinned it in place and sewed it to the outside of the fabric.

rubberband With the pirate fabric the turned right side out, I placed it inside the quilted pocket, making sure that the rubberband was tucked down in between the pockets.

rightside to right sideThen, I pinned the pockets together and began to sew around the top, leaving about two inches open so that I could turn the pirate fabric right side out and then stuff the quilted fabric into the pirate fabric, creating a quilted pocket!

baginbagLastly, I sewed on a big button from Laura Kelly’s Mix Button collection and then hot glued a coordinating button on top so that the thread was hidden.

buttonAnd Voila!  After inserting the iPad Mini, you can fold over the top just enough to cover the iPad Mini and hook the rubberband onto the button!

Hope you like my iPad Mini Travel Covers!  They were fun to make and were quite easy!  I love them and so do the boys!!

Until next time…….
